Ty MartinHarlem Community Liaison, SAGE Center Harlem
Ty Martin is the Community Liaison at SAGE Center Harlem at Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE), the country’s oldest and largest organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT older people. He has worked as the SAGE Harlem Community Outreach Manager, Program Manager and SAGE Harlem Outreach Worker since he joined the organization in March 2008. Ty oversees the SAGE Harlem 50+ Gay Men’s support group, and facilitates the weekly SAGE/Harlem United New Beginnings MSM over 40 support group. He also represents SAGE Harlem at meetings of the New York Association on HIV Over 50 (NYAHOF), and as a Schomburg Corporation Board Member & Trustee, Vice President of Harlem Pride Board of Directors, Abyssinian Development Corporation NNORC Steering Committee member, and member of Harlem Advocates for seniors (HAS), which meets at the Kennedy Center in Harlem.
Ty is a native New Yorker living in Harlem, and he was used in the SAGE ad campaign “SAGE Is…” The SAGE ads appeared in print media and in the public transportation system throughout New York City. Ty has been interviewed by the New York Daily News for the story “Isolation an age-old issue for gay seniors”; Time Out Magazine” for the story “Meet the Marchers”; and NEXT Magazine for the story “Faces of Change.” Ty is currently one of three older adults featured in a soon-to-be-released documentary by P.J. Ravel on gay retirees.
