About SAGE of the Genesee Valley
SAGE of the Genesee Valley is the major provider of social and educational programs to enhance the lives of older gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (GLBTI) individuals. To enrich the environment of the overall community, we educate the community about relevant GLBTI issues and support aging GLBTI individuals.
SAGE of the Genesee Valley is a program of the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley (GAGV). The GAGV is dedicated to cultivating a healthy, inclusive environment where individuals of all sexual orientations and gender expressions are safe, thriving, and enjoy full civil rights.
Recent Highlights
Senior Center Opens
In May 2012, SAGE of the Genesee Valley opened the Gay Alliance Senior Center. Hours are every Monday and Tuesday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. A major goal of the Center, said Kelly Clark, Director of Intergenerational Programming at the Alliance, is, “getting people out of their homes and staying active. We know that community connection is one of the hallmarks of good health and psychological well-being.”
Trans Basics Poster
The February 2012 edition of The Empty Closet, a publication of Gay Alliance, featured extra Trans-specific information and included a two-page “poster” with transgender information. This poster can be downloaded as a PDF file and hung in classrooms, clinics, offices, and most any place education would be of value.
Trans Hormone Brochure
Working with the Wegmans School of Pharmacy and local trans organizations, the Gay Alliance has produced a brochure about Hormones and basic recommendations on Trans health.
