Federal Government Rolls Back Data Collection on LGBT Seniors

Questions about sexuality have been removed from two federal surveys: The National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants, which collects information about home-delivered meal services, transportation, and senior centers, and the Annual Program Performance Report for Centers for Independent Living, which collects information on counseling, skills training, and other services provided to the disabled. 

LGBTQ advocates are worried, saying that by omitting the question, important information is being ignored and the needs of an aging LGBTQ population are being negated. Takeaway Washington Todd Zwillich sat down with Michael Adams, CEO of the group Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE), to discuss the challenges facing the aging LGBT population.
