This month, the SAGE Centre in New York City became the first seniors centre in the US dedicated to gay, lesbian, bi and transgender older adults.

The opening of the centre had been a dream for years: many elderly people who identify as LGBT are often forced to go 'back into the closet' when they seek aged care services simply to avoid prejudice and discrimination.
