Overview

Around the Country
Finding a job or a new career can be difficult for many people, but it’s especially difficult when we enter our 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. It's then when people typically begin competing with a younger workforce and the aging biases of many employers. And for lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (LGBT) older people, this process can be even more complicated since they must often deal with the added barriers of LGBT-bias and discrimination. SAGEWorks tackles these problems head-on—providing training, employment resources and the general job hunting know-how to ensure that LGBT elders obtain the job security and financial stability they need to age successfully.

SAGEWorks is a national work readiness program for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender mature workers (ages 40 and older) who need or want to return to the work place. The mission of SAGEWorks is to improve the capacity of LGBT older adults to remain productive, vital and contributing members of the nation's work force.

Through SAGEWorks programs around the country, participants:

  • Increase their technology and job skills to remain competitive in the modern work place
  • Gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of job search strategies, as well as community-based employment resources
  • Receive assistance in increasing their income, thereby improving their financial security and resources

SAGEWorks and AARP. SAGE is a certified site for the AARP Foundation's WorkSearch Information Network, an on-line program that helps assess job skills and interests, provides training and helps identify jobs through online listings.

Volunteer and Training Opportunities. SAGEWorks offers a range of opportunities for community-based organizations, local employers and volunteers.
