Objective

The objective of the SageConnect project is to create a collaborative web-based community for advocacy organizations and individual advocates that focus on LGBT aging issues. Sponsored by SAGE, the on-line community will serve as an information exchange for its members, with special focus on the exchange of best practices and experience on LGBT senior programming and advocacy.

Goals

  • Create, collect and effectively disseminate information that will support program replication and advocacy on behalf of LGBT seniors across the country,
  • Give participating organizations and advocates an effective means of ongoing communication with colleagues nationwide,
  • Increase collaboration and exchange among LGBT aging groups and advocates that will support ongoing efforts to build an LGBT aging network.
The Model

The SageConnect project will be developed using Community of Practice principles. Communities of Practice are rooted in social learning structures where people with a common interest collaborate to share ideas, find solutions, and build innovations. Key tenets of Communities of Practice include including the sharing of one's practical experiences - what worked and what didn't. The Experience

SageConnect members will experience a robust, easy-to-use accessible web environment designed to encourage the exchange of ideas and practice. While members will find a range of tools and resources, the environment's design and structure will take into account the practical, real-life needs of members by housing content in a manner that is easily found and retrieved quickly.
