What We Do

SAGE connects LGBT older people to innovative services and programs. Through initiatives ranging from cultural programs to employment and health services, SAGE offers life-changing support to thousands of LGBT older people around the country. Here are some of their stories.

SAGE advocates for public policies that will improve the lives of LGBT older people. In Washington, DC, SAGE focuses on economic, social, and health issues to ensure that policymakers support our community. SAGE also works with local advocates around the country to develop and execute their agendas. We get a seat at the table in the highest levels of government.

SAGE trains aging providers and LGBT organizations. SAGECare, our premier LGBT cultural competence certification program, draws from the best minds in the field to teach providers how to support LGBT older people. Great training statistic here.

SAGE is building a grassroots movement. Local SAGENet affiliates are at work in every region of the United States. By building the capacity of these leaders to provide services and engage in advocacy, SAGE advances its mission in rural and urban settings across the United States. We serve our community in 30 sites across the nation.

SAGE forges strong partnerships. Collaboration is one of our guiding principles. SAGE builds coalitions across the LGBT and aging fields to strengthen our political power and create more comprehensive agendas. Our partners are passionate, committed, and visionary.

SAGE develops consumer resources to inform and empower the community. Our resources provide critical knowledge and skills, empowering LGBT older people to make better choices, and helping providers better understand and address their unique needs. Hundreds of these resources are available through our National Resource Center on LGBT Aging.
