NEW RELEASE: First of its kind report for LGBTQ+ New Yorkers 50+

 In: Announcements

It is more than half a century after the Stonewall riots ignited the modern LGBTQ+ equality movement. Nearly a third of LGBTQ+ New Yorkers are over the age of 50, but the fight is far from finished. Those in the LGBTQ+ community, especially our elders, still face countless disparities in accessing inclusive mental and physical health care, experiencing social isolation, maintaining economic security, and more.

LGBTQ+ older people are resilient, yet these and other unique challenges have severe negative health, economic, and social implications that demand action. That’s why SAGE partnered with AARP New York and the AARP Foundation to release Disrupting Disparities: Solutions for LGBTQ+ New Yorkers 50+. This first-of-its-kind report includes an array of policy and legislative solutions that can serve as a roadmap for elected officials and policymakers at both the state and local levels of government.
