Honoring National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day 2021
20 years ago, “aging” was not something that people diagnosed with HIV thought would be possible. Yet today, over 50% of those living with HIV in the U.S. are age 50+.
Despite this reality, many people continue to view HIV/AIDS and aging as disparate issues. Consequently, there are severe shortcomings in our current medical and social service systems as they are unprepared to deal with growing numbers of older people with HIV.
In honor of National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day (NHAAAD) on September 18, we are proud to launch a series of info sheets outlining our goals and strategies for ensuring that our federal, state, and local policies are aging-inclusive and that HIV-related policies take into account the needs of older people living with HIV.
Access the info sheets and more in this resource hub created for practitioners, policymakers, long-term survivors, and older people with HIV.
