SAGE Stands with Marsha Wetzel

The following statement is attributable to SAGE CEO Michael Adams:

“We at SAGE know that LGBTQ+ older adults can feel hopeless and alone when faced with discrimination and harassment in senior housing communities. Thankfully, some like Marsha Wetzel feel empowered to fight back.  As the Seventh Circuit hears Lambda Legal’s appeal in Wetzel v. Glen St. Andrew Living Community, we stand with Marsha.  Marsha is fighting to hold Glen St. Andrew accountable for keeping her safe.  She has faced abuse at the hands of her fellow residents who have targeted her based on her sexual orientation. All LGBTQ+ elders deserve to be treated with dignity, especially in their homes. That is why we are committed to training long-term care providers in LGBTQ+ cultural competency with our SAGECare program, and why we will not stay quiet as the Trump administration promotes a license to discriminate.”
