New York, NY [January 27, 2025] — SAGE, the leading nonprofit advocating for LGBTQ+ elders, is proud to announce the launch of telephone support within SAGE x HearMe. This new voice feature marks the one-year anniversary of SAGE’s partnership with HearMe, an LGBTQ+-founded company and on-demand mental wellness app.

SAGE x HearMe provides exclusive, 24/7 access to culturally competent, empathetic listeners. The listeners are trained in LGBTQ+ and aging issues, and can provide users with support, understanding, and connection.

SAGE x HearMe provides a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ elders to build a sense of connection, combat loneliness, and find an outlet during times of stress. Prior to the launch of the telephone support option, LGBTQ elders texted one-on-one with trained empathetic listeners.

“At HearMe, we know real human connection is vital, especially for LGBTQ+ elders facing unique challenges of isolation,” said Adam Lippin, Founder of HearMe. “Adding voice support enhances our trusted text-based service, providing even more meaningful ways to connect. We’re proud to partner with SAGE to deliver compassionate care to the incredible LGBTQ+ community.”

The app provides LGBTQ+ elders with a safe and inclusive space to talk to a real person who has their best interests in mind. Participants can choose from several topics such as: I Just Want to Talk; Friends, Family and Relationships; Emotional Support; and Physical Health and Mental Well-Being. HearMe is always confidential and anonymous.

“Support for our community is essential — especially now,” said Christina Da Costa, Chief Experience Officer at SAGE. “We’re proud to continue our partnership with HearMe, ensuring that LGBTQ+ elders have a compassionate voice to turn to whenever they need it.”

Interested in joining SAGE x HearMe? Visit sageusa.org/hearme to sign up. Within the hour, users will receive an email from HearMe with instructions on how to download the app and create an account for free.

SAGE x HearMe also invites compassionate individuals, particularly those connected to the LGBTQ+ community, to become a volunteer listener here.

*HearMe is not a crisis hotline or treatment for serious mental health issues that require a mental health professional. Those in crisis should contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by texting or calling 988 for immediate help and dial 3 for LGBTQ+ specific services. Note that this extension is primarily targeted to LGBTQ+ youth but help through this service is still available to ALL LGBTQ+ people. You can also dial 988 for local resources.
