ACT NOW: Administration for Community Living Seeks Comment on Challenges Faced by LGBT Elders

Freedom for All Americans
By Adam Polaski
This week we’re joining with Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders to get the word out about the open comment period from the federal Administration for Community Living (ACL), which provides guidance on how, when, and where the aging network (a mix of state, local, and nonprofit agencies) does its job.

From now through August 22, the ACL is considering guidance under the Older Americans Act that will, among other things, hold the aging network accountable for assessing and meeting the needs of diverse elders, which includes LGBT older adults.

It’s so vital that the ACL hears from LGBT people and allies all across the country – especially in Southern and Midwestern states – about the unique needs and challenges faced by the older LGBT community. We need to tell ACL that strong, smart guidelines are critical, doable, and impactful! Make your voice heard here.

You have an opportunity right now to help improve the lives of LGBT elders. Take action here to help ensure that LGBT elders receive the services and supports they deserve. After all, our elders paved the way for many of the rights we now have and those for which we continue to fight. They’ve had our back, now let’s return the favor.

Sign your name to the action alert here. The form is available in Spanish here.
