SAGE Condemns President Trump’s Directive Banning Transgender Recruits in the Military

Trump's directive to ban transgender service members is wrong-headed, cruel, and un-American

[New York, NY] SAGE, the nation’s largest and oldest organization serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender elders, stands with our transgender community in opposing the Trump administration’s directive to ban U.S. military recruits.

“President Trump’s directive to the Department of Defense to ban transgender service members is wrong-headed, cruel, and un-American,” says SAGE CEO Michael Adams. “Many transgender elders and SAGE constituents have proudly served their country through all manner of war and adversity; many more serve currently. This latest display of bigotry by the Trump administration is an insult to them and to all Americans who believe in fairness.”

Just weeks ago, SAGE strongly condemned the administration’s first comments about a possible ban against transgender people serving in the military. SAGE will continue to speak out when any member of our LGBT community is confronted with discrimination.  We refuse to be invisible.
